PERSONNEL MATTERS FOR EXPATRIATE STAFF

 

Fixed Conveyance Allowance/Mileage Claim

Privileges introduced through the Prime Minister’s Circular, reference 17/1988 issued on 29 June 1988)

 

A monthly conveyance allowance (fixed/kilometer based) is normally paid by the Government if the officer is required to use his car to discharge his duties away from his usual place of work with the consent of Head of Department.

 

Academic staff who are involved in Teaching Practice are urged to apply in advance the conveyance allowance so that they can be paid accordingly.

 

Category B Fixed Conveyance Allowance
[Officers with a salary scale of UB4 (Associate Professor) and UB5 (Professor)]

  1. Maximum allowance of $46 per month
  2. Mileage Claim Allowance:
    No payment for the first 81 kilometers
    45 cents per kilometer for subsequent mileage of up to 241 kilometers
    14 cents per kilometer thereafter

Category D Fixed Conveyance Allowance
[(Officers with a salary scale of UB1, UB2 and UB3]

  1. Maximum allowance of $37 per month
  2. Mileage Claim Allowance:
    No payment for the first 81 kilometers
    45 cents per kilometer for subsequent mileage of up to 241 kilometers
    14 cents per kilometer thereafter

Category F Mileage Claim Allowance (no fixed conveyance allowance)

  1. Maximum allowance of $37 per month
  2. Mileage Claim Allowance:
    No payment for the first 81 kilometers
    45 cents per kilometer for subsequent mileage of up to 241 kilometers
    14 cents per kilometer thereafter

No allowance will be given when no claim is made.  The mileage claim is for the journey incurred on official duties outside the University.


45 cents per kilometer for the first 225 kilometers
14 cents per kilometer for the subsequent mileage

 

Clause 4: The monthly fixed conveyance allowance will be paid to staff who are in service in Brunei Darussalam.  Staff will not be paid the monthly fixed conveyance allowance if he/she is on leave or outstation for more than 30 days. The vehicle has to be maintained in good condition for official use.

 

Clause 5: The given approval will cease when:

  1. the vehicle is sold/broken down (not in good condition);
  2. the applicant is no longer working with the University;
  3. the applicant is no longer eligible for the allowance;
  4. subject to the availability of fund remaining for each financial year (Vote: SFO2A, BO 5100 Elaun Perjalanan Tetap/Rumah Pejabat).

An applicant who would like to claim allowances for a newly purchased vehicle must provide the details required on the application forms.

 

Clause 8: Any applicant who does not have a valid driving license will not be entitled to receive the said allowance.
