3DiscoverFEATUREUBD’s 25th Convocation CeremonyUBD held its 25th Convocation Ceremony on 12 September 2013 at the Chancellor Hall, UBD. The ceremony was graced by His Majesty Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Chancellor of UBD, along with His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Pro-Chancellor of UBD. In his welcoming speech, Dato Paduka Dr. Hj Zulkarnain Hj Hanafi, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) and Vice Chancellor of UBD, congratulated the graduates of the first cohort of the GenNEXT undergraduate degree first implemented in 2009. GenNEXT allows students to follow an educational framework specifically designed to their individual learning styles. GenNEXT programme ensures that students are able to cope with the constant change in worldly trends and environment as its multidisciplinary aspect allows them to be more well-rounded individuals.The Vice Chancellor also remarked on the achievements attained recently, such as this year’s number of students graduating with a Masters or PhD, which has increased to 71 per cent compared to last year’s figures. Also notable was the establishment of the Faculty of Integrated Technologies (FIT), the Centre for Advanced Research (CARe) and the Institute for Biodiversity and Environment Research (IBER), which were officiated by His Majesty this year.
