discoverFEATURE3His Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Pro-Chancellor, of UBD visited the university on 26 May 2014. The arrival of His Royal Highness was received by Yang Mulia Dato Paduka Dr. Hj Zulkarnain bin Hj Hanafi, Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) and Vice Chancellor of UBD, at the University Library.His Royal Highness was then invited to visit the PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS) where he was received by Pg. Dr. Nurolaini binti Pg. Hj Muhammad Kifli, Acting Dean of the PAPRSB IHS. His Royal Highness was briefed on the building by Zul Amali bin Dato Paduka Hj Idris from Arkitek Idris, followed by a presentation on an eight-bedded simulation ward showcasing different scenarios in which both Bachelor of Health Sciences (Medicine) and Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing And Midwifery) students demonstrated a variety of simulation skills such as electro cardiogram, medical bed-side teaching, correct use of medication, blood-taking, naso gastric tube insertion, suture, and midwives station (post-natal care and abdominal palpation).His Royal Highness also viewed the Simulation Centre which featured high and low fidelity simulation mannequins. These mannequins simulate road traffic accident patients with one suffering from severe trauma whilst the other requires CPR. These simulations demonstrated PAPRSB IHS students working together as a team in an emergency situation, which they learned from their programme. Visit by The Crown PrinceAn exhibition area was also set up to present research activities in PAPRSB IHS which featured four areas of research on:1. Brunei Epidemiology of Stroke and Multiple Sclerosis by Cikgu Agong Lupat2. Influence of QiGong classes on somatic symptoms of stress among freshmen students by Cikgu Rozita binti Hj Tamin, Chan Ee Suen, Teo Yan Choo, Dr Salim Frederics, Alice Lim and Chair Professor Dr David Koh.3. Potential modulation of T-Cell responses by HDACis by Associate Professor Dr Anne Cunningham4. Immunology research on “How do cells in our body “see” viruses?” by Dr Adi Yusri bin Dato Paduka IdrisConcurrently, a workshop titled “Workshop as a teaching method to promote student centered learning” was facilitated by Ms Teo Yan Choo, Lecturer and Teaching Excellence Award Recipient from the PAPRSB IHS, through the Teaching and Learning Centre. This one-day workshop had the intention of sharing the facilitator’s experiences in utilizing workshops as one of the teaching and learning strategies in higher education. This was done through simulating and sharing with the participants her experiences in facilitating a “positive thinking” workshop for several cohorts of UBD students registered for stress management with the complimentary therapies breadth module.
