03DISCOVER UBD JANUARY - MARCH 2015a Message from ourassistant Vice ChancellorAs we welcome the new year of 2015, DiscoverUBD is unveiling its new look. Our design and editorial teams have worked hard to develop and implement a design to give you a fresh and pleasant reading experience. This new look comes as no coincidence. This 2015 comes with new resolutions for change as UBD turns 30. One of the most obvious changes, as you may have noted, is our fresh and clean layout and font. We’ve adopted a new approach to our content selection to create themed issues. This issue’s theme focuses on Biodiversity - one of UBD’s key strengths in research. Being blessed with rich rainforest and biodiversity, UBD thrives in biodiversity and environmental studies. The Kuala Belalong Field Studies Centre (KBFSC), being located in the lush rainforest of Temburong District, allows our researchers to encounter the diverse wildlife near our research centre and undertake impactful research on the environment. You will read more about KBFSC, the research and facilities it has to offer on our feature story. I am proud to say that UBD has had a great start to 2015. Over January to March, the university has established new collaborations with universities from Europe to Asia on new programmes, internship opportunities and student exchanges. UBD is committed to provide its students and staff with rich and unique learning and research experiences on a global platform and it is very rewarding to see them making the most of the opportunities to excel in their fields. Walking into the new year with such wonderful developments, we certainly will strive to better ourselves through the rest of the year. Let’s use this great start to propel ourselves through with more success and achievements! Finally, I would like to wish you all happy reading. I hope you enjoy this issue as much as we have had putting it together!Warm regards, rubiah hj YacubAssistant Vice Chancellor(Corporate and Administration)New Year New LookNew Vision
