08DISCOVER FEATUREuBD’s hydrogen-Powered Car takes 3rd Place in shell Eco Marathon asiaMaking its debut attempt at the Shell Eco Marathon Asia (SEMA) 2015, Universiti Brunei Darussalam’s Hydrogen Powered Car ‘Nakhoda’ gained third place in the competition. This energy-efficient vehicle achieved a distance of 187 km, on one m3 of hydrogen fuel.The team that created Nahkoda, Team GenNext ‘Pejuang’ (translated as Fighter) hit the SEMA street circuit in Manila, Philippines with their prototype hydrogen fuel cell car, Nakhoda, and completed four competitive run attempts on the final race day last Sunday for Brunei’s first ever attempt in the Prototype Hydrogen Fuel Cell Category.The winning team comprises an interesting mix of students from different faculties and areas of expertise: Sham Neng Yao from Faculty of Integrated Technologies (FIT), Md Khairul Zhafri Hj Md Noor, Dide Nurulaswani Hj Md Saidi and Irza Tuah from Faculty of Science (FOS), and Nazurah Md Noor from School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE). The group was supervised by UBD senior lecturer, Mr. Chong Kim Onn from FIT.The road to victory was no smooth journey. The team of young engineers had to find a way to get them past the safety and technical inspection in order to proceed to the next round.
