Present as the guest of honour to grace the event was the Minister of Education, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman.In celebrating its 30th anniversary, the university continues its mission to provide wider opportunities to widen the horizons and potential of its students. UBD also intends to further make its contribution to develop human resources with knowledge and skills through world class education and research in order to play a role in national development.UBD was established in 1985, opening its doors to its first intake of 176 students in the 28th October. Today, the first choice university in Brunei Darussalam has a total of 86 PhD candidates, 657 Masters students and 4,050 undergraduate students. Through its internationalisation efforts, UBD now hosts 437 international students on campus – a 19% increase from the year before.Over the 30 years of its establishment, UBD has progressively achieved important milestones in higher education in Brunei Darussalam in terms of international recognition, education and research excellence. UBD was ranked 118th among the best universities in Asia in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asian University Ranking this year. It was also ranked as the top university for student mobility, being positioned No. 1 in outbound students and No. 2 in inbound students.UBD has to grown in terms of its local and international student population, signifying the increasing recognition that UBD is gaining worldwide. The university will continue to work towards realising Brunei’s National Vision 2035 to produce highly educated individuals with skills in leadership and innovation, entrepreneurship and environmental awareness in order to contribute to capacity building for the country. UBD strives to provide life-long learning, education and research with a global outlook to further develop the intellectual and social capital for the country. In 2009, UBD introduced its flagship GenNEXT curriculum, a broad-based transdisciplinary framework, providing students the flexibility to tailor their studies according to their individual learning styles.
