3DiscoverFEATUREHis Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam, was awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Laws (Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa) by King’s College London on the 14th of April 2011.The ceremony took place on the Strand Campus, King’s College London.Honorary degrees of King’s College London are awarded in recognition of an individual’s conspicuous merit as demonstrated by their outstanding distinction. His Majesty the Sultan was awarded for his efforts in stressing the importance of education. His Majesty has done much to promote education at all levels. He has not only made it possible for Brunei students to pursue higher education abroad, but has also established in Brunei two new universities and a university college to meet the increasing demand for higher education.Lord Duoro, Chairman of the College Council, presented the scroll of Honorary Doctorate of Laws to His Majesty.His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam, was awarded the Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy and Civilization by Universitas Indonesia on the 21st of April 2011.The ceremony took place on the Balai Sidang, Depok Campus, Universitas Indonesia, in Jakarta.Prof. der Soz. Dr. Gumilar Rusliwa Somantri, Rector of Universitas Indonesia, highlighted three of the monarch’s achievements which had led to the conferment of the honorary doctorate: His Majesty’s success in improving human welfare through economic development, education and civilization, His Majesty’s support for ASEAN regional cooperation and international politics, and His Majesty’s wise leadership which has increased the physical and spiritual welfare of his people.
