8UBD Hosts Special Lecture by the Honorable Vice President of the Republic of IndiaUBD hosted a Special Lecture by His Excellency Honorable Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari, the Vice President of the Republic of India on 3rd February at the Senate Room in the Chancellor Hall. The Special Lecture is the first of its kind to be delivered by such a prominent state figure of the Republic of India in Brunei since the establishment of bilateral relations between the two nations in 1984. The lecture attracted a large audience comprising students, UBD’s academic and administrative staff, government officers, and foreign dignitaries in Brunei. In his lecture titled “India-Brunei: Partners in Peace and Prosperity”, His Excellency lauded Brunei on being a peace-loving and tolerant society, confirming that Brunei has indeed lived up to its name “The Abode of Peace”. The strong and abiding relationship between Brunei and India dates back to the 3rd century. His Excellency shared that his visit is “a reaffirmation of the importance that India accords to its relations with Brunei and our keen desire to further deepen and intensify our relations”.His Excellency highlighted several areas of potential bilateral collaborations between the two nations, adding that India and Brunei share common perspectives on several pertinent global issues. One area for collaboration is education. His Excellency pointed out that the quality of Indian professionals working overseas, including in Brunei, is testimony to the strength of academic institutions in India. “We would welcome more exchanges of students, teachers and researchers from the academic institutions in Brunei, including UBD. Such exchanges would augment our people-to-people contacts”, His Excellency said.
