This includes the ability to practice their clinical competencies in a structured environment and also their soft skills, including communication. The faculty was also the first American Heart Association (AHA) International Training Centre (ITC) for First Aid, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) in Brunei. Its aim is to train over 500 people per year in high quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of Automatic External Defibrillators (AED). PAPRSB IHS has 13 AHA accredited instructors to date. In its flagship Bachelor of Health Sciences in Medicine programme, PAPRSB IHS students spend three years in UBD after which they are transferred to one of the Partner Medical Schools (PMS) for the second phase of the programme for a further three years. PAPRSB IHS is partnered with renowned medical schools across the world including Glasgow University, University of Aberdeen, University of Southampton in the United Kingdom; University College Cork, Trinity College Dublin, National University Galway in Ireland; Australian National University, University New South Wales Sydney, Adelaide University in Australia and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Senior Minister Teo had the opportunity to observe an ongoing session of UBD’s Global Classroom. The Global Classroom began in UBD at the PAPRSB IHS and offers simultaneous video-conferencing links with eight universities in Asia, which include National University of Singapore, Seoul National University and Kagawa University among others. Since 2012, UBD has participated in an annual Global Classroom on International Perspectives of Environmental and Occupational Health Issues. The classroom sessions run from September to December annually under the Environmental Occupational Health Module in the Master of Public Health Programme. The Vice Chancellor then proceeded to brief Senior Minister Teo and his delegation with an overview of the latest developments at UBD, including UBD’s ongoing collaboration with universities and institutions in Singapore. UBD is partnered with four leading universities in Singapore, the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU) and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) with ongoing collaboration in research and staff and student exchanges. Three of these universities, NUS, NTU and SMU, are also partnered with UBD via the ASEAN University Network (AUN), of which UBD is a founding member. UBD and NUS also work closely in academic and research collaboration in the areas of biodiversity, climate change, and the environment under the International Consortium of Universities for the Study of Biodiversity and the Environment (iCUBE) along with other leading universities in the field such as University of North Carolina (UNC), Korea University (KU), University of Auckland (UA), University of Bonn (UB), and Monash University (MU). Yale-NUS College collaborates in student exchanges with the Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER), UBD in student exchanges via our Global Discovery Programme (GDP), sending groups of students, postdoctoral fellows and researchers to UBD once or twice per year. Through the Discovery Year Programme, UBD regularly sends students to Singapore for internships at Mercy Relief and Heartware Network. The visit by Senior Minister Teo concluded with the viewing of an exhibition showcasing six selected start-up companies initiated by UBD students.
