It means that all the future books and chapter books written by UBD staff and published in our book series will be counted as Scopus publications credited to UBD’s staff.”Another implication of this global recognition is that more UBD staff may be invited by THE to join the next survey. “Being indexed by Scopus means that current and aspiring researchers will be more motivated to publish monographs, for instance their PhD thesis, in our book series. And I’m not only thinking about young talented Bruneians, but also bright young foreign researchers who will apply to a Post Doctorship at UBD in social sciences and humanities. It also means that whenever UBD staff develop a research project which involves an international collaboration, our book series may be an attractive option to publish the result of their research,” he added.UBD entered the THE World University Rankings for the first time in 2019 with a global position in the 401 to 500 band. UBD did well in all the categories. Its particular strength lies in the categories of International Outlook and Research Influence. In International Outlook, UBD is ranked 126 in the world, in the 85.8 percentile. UBD scored highly in percentage of international staff (96.7 percent), international joint publications (97.5 percent) and percentage of international students (63.1 percent). UBD’s success in the THE rankings has been made possible partly by a sustained increase in research output and research impact. Recent research publications in international peer reviewed journals rose by 43 percent, and citations which measure impact increased by 71 percent. Since 2018, UBD has been considered a “Very High research intensive” university by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings cement that reputation.BECOMING AN INDEXED BOOK SERIES INCREASES UBD’S RECOGNITION IN THE GLOBAL ACADEMIC COMMUNITY. IT WILL IMPROVE OUR ACADEMIC REPUTATION WHICH PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE QS RANKING.
