DISCOVER NEWS08Faculties across the university such as the Institute of Asian Studies (IAS), Academy of Brunei Studies (APB), Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) and Faculty of Integrate Technologies (FIT) have collaborated with Indonesian institutions and universities particularly in areas of mutual interest for both Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia. From religion and culture to biodiversity and alternative energy, researchers also have produced joint publications with partner universities.Universities located in Kalimantan are also part of the Borneo Studies Network (BSN) where UBD is the Principal Lead of the Borneo Renewable Energy & Advanced Material Research Group. Other research groups include: Borneo Biodiversity, Borneo Cultural Heritage & Ethnic Groups, Borneo Renewable Energy & Advanced Material, Borneo Sustainable Community Transformation, and Borneo Economy & Banking. UBD funded two research projects under Borneo Renewable Energy & Advanced Material Research Group: “Microgrid Systems and their Impacts on UN Sustainable Development Goals”, and “Hydrothermal Treatment of Biomass for Biofuel Production”. Both research projects involve multidisciplinary researchers from UBD such as Centre of Advanced Material & Energy Sciences (CAMES), Faculty of Integrated Technology (FIT), Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Institute of Asian Studies (IAS) and Institute of Policy Studies (IPS) working in collaboration with multiple member universities representing the different parts of Kalimantan including Universitas of Palangkaraya, Universitas Balikpapan, Universitas Tanjungpura and Universitas Islam Kalimantan.Under the Borneo Biodiversity Research Group, UBD is co-lead together with Universitas Tanjungpura. Three focal research areas on Borneo Biodiversity have been identified: Biodiversity and Conservation of Tropical Forests (Flora and Fauna); Ethnobotany and Pharmacology and Marine Biodiversity (Riverine and Freshwater).
