Many of the students from low income households face difficulty with the cost of downloading course materials and viewing online lectures. During these challenging times, the UBD Community took immediate action to ensure that the unique needs of these students are met. Together, staff in the university worked hard to ensure all UBD students have continued access to our remote learning and online resources. The UBD Endowment Fund raised BND7,752.80 from alumni, corporate and individual donors. In response to the COVID-19 emergency, the UBD Endowment Fund will help students who are currently facing barriers to remote higher education. One of the objectives of the fund is to assist underprivileged students of UBD. UBD also received a donation of BND2,200 from 673 Cycling Club and Friends. Contributions to the UBD Endowment Fund made resources available for the university to support students who are facing hardships as a result of the COVID-19 situation. It was utilised in providing subsidies for Data Top-ups and SIM cards for Mobile Internet Connection.Assistant Vice Chancellor (Corporate & Administration) Hajah Rubiah Haji Yacub lauded the support from the alumni of UBD. “Their generous contribution, along with ongoing support and cooperation from staff and students have been paramount in ensuring the continuity of education during these trying times,” she said. UBD also lent its less fortunate students computers during the few months in order to make sure that they don’t get left behind. “We in UBD, would like to thank all our alumni, corporate and individual donors for their generosity during this difficult time in UBD’s history. Together, we can.”TOGETHER, STAFF IN THE UNIVERSITY WORKED HARD TO ENSURE ALL UBD STUDENTS HAVE CONTINUED ACCESS TO OUR REMOTE LEARNING AND ONLINE RESOURCES.
