3DiscoverFEATURE1033 students graduate in UBD’s 23rd Convocation CeremonyUniversiti Brunei Darussalam celebrated its latest batch of graduates in its 23rd Convocation Ceremony on 29 September 2011 at the Chancellor Hall. The ceremony was graced by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, His Royal Highness Prince (Dr.) Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and members of the Royal Family.In his welcoming speech, the Vice-Chancellor Dato Paduka Dr. Hj Zulkarnain Hj Hanafi shared that a total of 1033 students had successfully completed their studies in UBD, one of whom was Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah Hj Salleh Ab. Rahaman. The Vice Chancellor also highlighted that the first GenNEXT third-year undergraduates had begun their Discovery Year in August, leaving UBD to attend a variety of programmes such as internships locally and internationally, as well as study abroad programmes in partner universities, including King’s College London, Monash University Australia, Waseda University Japan, Hankuk University Korea. Some Discovery Year students had also undertaken incubation and innovation projects, while others had chosen to contribute to Community Outreach Programmes.UBD has also been very active in Student Exchange Programmes with countries like China, Korea, Japan, United Kingdom and the United States of America. Bringing international students into UBD will ensure that students have a platform through which they can share and exchange knowledge and experience for mutual development.The Vice Chancellor took the opportunity to introduce the new Continuing Education Centre which offers life-long learning programmes, as well as the Innovation and Enterprise Office. He also highlighted that as part of the university’s efforts to add value to learning and research, UBD has been inviting Eminent Professors to the university.The Vice Chancellor concluded his welcoming speech with a congratulatory message to all the graduates.
