3DiscoverFEATUREAward Ceremony of The Chancellor’s Scholar Universiti Brunei Darussalam, 2012/2013 SessionHis Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to present The Chancellor’s Scholar Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) to three outstanding Bruneian students in London, United Kingdom on Sunday, 30 December 2012.Accompanying His Majesty was Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malek, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen, Her Royal Highness Princess Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah.Also present at the ceremony was the Brunei Darussalam High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Minister of Education cum Chairman of the UBD Council – Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar Haji Apong, Minister of Finance II at the Prime Minister’s Office, the Mufti Kerajaan and the Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) and Vice-Chancellor of UBD – Dato Paduka Dr Haji Zulkarnain Haji Hanafi.This was the inaugural award of the prestigious scholarship that was introduced earlier in the year. The Chancellor’s Scholar UBD is offered to graduate students at top universities overseas and aims to attract brilliant candidates who are passionate about research and teaching. The Chancellor’s Scholars will eventually join UBD after completion of their studies to become members of UBD’s academic manpower. This scholarship answers the call of Wawasan 2035 to create a nation of well-educated, highly skilled and successful citizens and residents, and contributes to the number of local academics in high positions at UBD of who are of an international caliber. The 2012/2013 session sees the award going to three outstanding local PhD students – Dk Nuramalina Hafizah Pg Hj Mumin reading a PhD in Oncology at the University of Oxford, Dyg Lim Chai Hoon @Nicole reading a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Cambridge and Dyg Nurul Huda Mohammad Ramli reading a PhD in Mathematics at University College London.After the award presentation, His Majesty consented to give an audience to the scholars and their parents.Application for The Chancellor’s Scholar for the 2013/2014 session is expected to open in January 2013.
