3DiscoverFEATUREHis Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consents to receive the Award of Companion of the College from the Royal College of General Practitioners, LondonHis Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to receive the Award of the Companion of the College at a ceremony held at the Royal College of General Practioner (RCGP)’s new headquarters building at 30 Euston Road, London on Thursday, 3 January 2013. His Majesty is the first recipient of the Award of Companion of the College which was established to mark the RCGP’s 60th anniversary. His Majesty’s award is in recognition of his longstanding support for primary health care and primary health care education and training in Brunei Darussalam.His Majesty consented to participate in the ceremonial College procession into the venue for the ceremony. The conferment ceremony began with a welcome and opening address by Professor Claire Gerada, Chair of Council Royal College of General Practioner RCGP. This was followed by Immediate Past President, RCGP - Dr Iona Heath who read the citation and invited His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam to receive the scroll of the Award of Companion of the College presented by Professor Claire Gerada. His Majesty then proceeded to deliver his Titah in which His Majesty expressed his great pleasure and honour to receive the Award and was grateful for the College’s support and collaboration over the past 13 years in developing family medicine and primary health care in Brunei Darussalam. Graduates from the training programmes developed through this collaboration have made significant contributions to the improvment of primary health care in Brunei Darussalam. Apart from the positive impact in Brunei Darussalam, the programmes have also benefited doctors from neighbouring countries.His Majesty also consented to officiate the naming ceremony of the new RCGP Auditorium as the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Auditorium, at which His Majesty proceeded to unveil a plaque marking the opening of the auditorium.
