A total of 16 participants successfully completed the FPT-UBD Innovation Lab programme and received certificates following a showcase of their projects at the Integrated Science Building.
The latest cohort of participants comprised of students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam, FPT University, officers from government departments as well as international participants. The fourth cohort of the software development training programme was conducted from 14th January to 4th May 2019.
The participants showcased their industry projects which developed solutions to real-industry issues from local and international clients. The four projects presented included a timetabling web-based software in response to problems faced by room booking challenges, a web-based and mobile app solution to facilitate medical practitioners to view the health profile of their diabetes patients, implementation of face recognition technology to allow system login in a human resource management software system, and utilising big data technology for a recommendation system of an IPTV system.
Presentating the certificates to the participants was Associate Professor Dr Mohd Ayub Sadiq, Assistant Vice Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise). Also present were Cuong Hoang Van from FPT University, Pg Dr Emeroylarffion Abas, Deputy Director in Office of Assistant Vice Chancellor (Innovation and Enterprise), Dr Ong Wee Hong, FPT-UBD Innovation Lab Coordinator, Irmawati Haji Ahmad, Acting Director (Office Global Relations) and also invited guests from various government agencies and private sector.
UBD signed a Collaboration Agreement with FPT University for the setting up of FPT-UBD Innovation Lab in September 2017 where training and research are based on an industrial model with hands on experience that is relevant to Industrial Revolution 4.0. FPT Corporation is the largest IT enterprise in Vietnam owing seven ICT companies as well as set up the FPT university; serving clients worldwide. An Industry Mentor from FPT Corporation trains and mentors participants every semester at UBD, where participants develop industry level, real life projects through the 16-week training. This is in line with local capacity building for various industries in Brunei Darussalam especially in the development of digital technology.
The FPT-UBD Innovation Lab offers full time and part time programmes for UBD students, FPT students as well as students from Higher Education Institutions and also any individuals who would like to learn innovative technologies for recreational purpose. So far a total of 61 students have already graduated from FPT-UBD Innovation Lab. The next intake of the FPT-UBD Innovation Lab training will commence from 12th August until 30th November 2019.
