Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) in collaboration with the Embassy of The Republic of Turkey in Brunei Darussalam recently launched Turkish Week in conjunction with the upcoming Turkish National Day. Several events were lined up during the Turkish Week to promote Turkey to students and staff of UBD and the Bruneian community.
The week kicked off with the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition on 21st October 2019 by the Ambassador of Turkey to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Mr Mehmet Suat Akgün. The photo exhibition has been brought together to showcase a collection of 40 photos taken by members of Photographic Art Federation of Turkey depicting sunset and sunrise moments. Present during the opening ceremony was Datin Dr Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, The Vice Chancellor of UBD who presented His Excellency Mr Mehmet Suat Akgün with a token of appreciation. The exhibition installed at the ground floor lobby of UBD Main Library is open for viewing to the general public from 21st till 29th October 2019, Monday to Sunday from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm and on Friday from 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm.
During the Turkish Week, UBD Simpur Café will serve traditional Turkish cuisine to patrons of the Cafe. His Excellency Mr Mehmet Suat Akgün informed that many people already know kebab varieties of Turkey and desserts like baklava, however during the Turkish Week at UBD, more traditional meals that Turks generally eat at home will be introduced to Bruneian.
A coffee presentation event will take place on 26th October 2019 at 3.00 pm where the Turkish Ambassador will conduct a presentation on the different aspects of preparing and serving Turkish coffee as well as its place in the Turkish culture. The event will take place at UBD Simpur Café. Students, staff of UBD and member of the public are welcome attend the event.
The Turkish Week also featured a lecture by His Excellency Mr Mehmet Suat Akgün on Turkey from a Cultural and Touristic Point of View to students and staff of UBD. His Excellency will present on his country, reflecting on his travel both in time and around Turkey.
Turkey and Brunei Darussalam has enjoyed 35 years of foreign and diplomatic relationship since 1984 and opened its Embassy in Brunei Darussalam on 15th October 2013.
