Fake Braces Awareness Campaign (FBAC)

Six third year Dentistry students from the Institute of Health Science, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, are organizing the Fake Braces Awareness Campaign (FBAC) in collaboration with the Department of Dental Services, Ministry of Health. FBAC is a project aimed to raise awareness on the dangers and risks of fake brace, to educate the public on the ways to report fake braces and to highlight the importance of seeking a proper orthodontic treatment.

Throughout the month of August, various activities will be held to raise awareness such as a virtual run co-organised together with MK Fashion, school talks, an educational video, poster making competition and weekly quizzes on their social media pages. The virtual run, with the theme 'Run From Fake Braces', will be held in September 2020. The registration period will begin from the 12th of August 2020 (Tuesday) to 31st of August 2020 (Monday) through an online application form or walk-ins which will take place at the PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, every Friday (9:00am-11:30am, 2:00pm-4:00pm) and Saturday (10:00am-4:00pm) from 14th August 2020 to 29th August 2020.

Talks will also be held at two Sixth Form Centres namely, Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan and Pusat Tingkatan Enam Sengkurong on 17th of August 2020 and 24th of August 2020 respectively. The talk will be delivered by dental students alongside with invited dental specialists, Dr Maisalamah binti Haji Taha, Dr. Uday Kumar Umesan and Dk Dr Hjh Noorsuhada binti Pg Hj Ismail from the Department of Dental Services, Ministry of Health. To further raise the awareness on fake braces, a poster competition will be held from the 11th of August 2020 to 29th of August 2020. This activity allows the public to use their creativity and knowledge on fake braces to create posters either digitally or hand-drawn. The winner will get the chance to win a prize. Other than that, weekly online quizzes on fake braces will be posted throughout the campaign period.

Additionally, an educational video will also be produced to educate the public and address their enquiries during this campaign period. A series of questions will be gathered from the public through their social media pages which will be addressed by orthodontists and general dentists from the Department of Dental Services, Ministry of Health. To increase the outreach of the awareness, the video will be uploaded on various social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook and Youtube.
