Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd on behalf of Zhejiang University donated a collection of ancient Chinese paintings to Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) today. During the handover ceremony, Mr. Qiu Jianlin, Chairman of Zhejiang Hengyi Group Co. Ltd., Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd and Board Director of China Zhejiang University presented the collection to Yang Mulia Datin Dr. Dayang Hajah Anita Binurul Zahrina binti Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, Vice Chancellor of UBD.
The comprehensive collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings is a large-scale national cultural project that is jointly compiled and published by Zhejiang University and Zhejiang Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage. It is hoped that the collection will provide an opportunity for UBD academics and students to observe and appreciate the traditional Chinese arts, history and culture, while also serving as a valuable resource for researchers that are studying ancient arts in the university.
UBD has a tripartite university-industry collaboration with Hengyi Sdn Bhd and Zhejiang University in Hangzhou (China) in the Bachelor of Engineering programme (Chemical and Process Engineering). In 2014, Hengyi Industries established the Joint Chemical and Process Engineering Scholarship Programme with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Zhejiang University. Under the programme, UBD students are awarded a scholarship to continue their academic studies at Zhejiang University.
The programme is created as part of Hengyi Industries' commitment to support the development of local capacity building in the country. The programme offers the scholars an opportunity for employment with Hengyi Industries upon completion of the programme. This is part of the company's long-term corporate social responsibility initiative to create more direct jobs in Brunei to support the Bruneianisation directive of maximising employment opportunities for Bruneians in the Oil and Gas Industry.
In 2020, Hengyi Industries has awarded the scholarship to 23 more students for the 7th cohort of scholars under this programme. The programme also seen great results in creating employment opportunities where a total of 68 students, whom have completed the scholarship programme, have joined Hengyi Industries' pool of workforce.
Following the book donation ceremony, Mr. Qiu Jianlin had the opportunity to visit UBD's Faculty of Integrated Technologies (FIT) as well as the Centre for Advanced Materials and Energy Sciences (CAMES), both with ongoing research aligned with the university-industry collaboration between UBD, Zhejiang University and Hengyi Industries.
After entering the 2020 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for the first time last year, UBD rose to the 351-400 band this year. UBD has also shown a steady rise up the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings, where it currently ranks at 254 in the latest release, 44 places from last year's 298. UBD is also now ranked 75th in the QS Asia University Ranking and ranked 1st among Asian universities in student outbound mobility consecutively for the six years running.
