FOS Facilitates Collaborative Research Training Workshop “Accelerating Research with CAS SciFindern

On 23 March 2022, the Faculty of Science (FOS) in Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and the American Chemical Society (ACS) held a joint training workshop "Accelerating Research with CAS SciFindern" to boost the research environment in the university.

Provided for free by ACS and Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), the workshop highlighted the importance of scientific resources in research and publication, especially SciFinder, the most comprehensive database for the chemical literature. It is a core research tool for chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, nanotechnology, physics, environmental science, and other science and engineering disciplines. It contains a wide variety of content from journal articles to information on chemical structures, properties, and reactions.

The workshop has accelerated the research and publication environment in UBD and motivated young and new lecturers to conduct research using new tools such as SciFindern. Students on PhD and Master of Science levels as well as undergraduates undergoing their final year project (FYP) in the Bachelor of Science of FOS, Faculty of Integrated Technologies (FIT), and Centre for Advanced Materials and Energy Studies (CAMES) as well as teaching staff of FOS, FIT and CAMES attended this workshop.

The Faculty Global Affairs Committee (FGAC) of FOS, UBD, headed by Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Mansoob Khan, is closely working with universities, scientific societies, administrative units, faculty, staff, and partners across the world. As part of its commitment towards the internationalisation of FOS, UBD, the committee includes global research, education, international scholars, global partnerships, and international students. It aims to transform the University's research, teaching, learning, ethos, and networks to be globally engaged and competent. Through FGAC, FOS is poised to become the nation's best transformative research and learning community, creating and supporting global leaders.

FGAC has been in collaboration with established societies such as the American Chemical Society (ACS), one of the world's largest scientific societies and the premier home of chemists and related professionals. FGAC is closely working with ACS to organise joint webinars and workshops with UBD.

To be highlighted at the international level, such events and activities will help UBD in internationalisation which includes significant placements in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
