The 1st National Youth Energy Video competition is organized by BNERI and the Energy Department. This year’s theme is ‘Conserve Energy: Our Future, Our Choice’. The objective of this competition is to deliver meaningful messages in reducing energy consumption and to improve its efficiency usage. Contestants were required to make a short video not more than two minutes based on the theme. The competition was open to youths between 15 to 26 years old.

The theme of the competition, ‘Conserve Energy: Our Future, Our Choice’ inspired us to interview primary students as we reflect the word ‘future’ to our younger generation. Our concept was to collect their honest opinions to understand their basic knowledge on energy conservation or lack thereof. We wanted to include their innocence in their reactions to ensure the audience of the genuine answers we received.

When undertaking a project, we advise to do thorough research, look for inspirations around you, invest in time to plan your projects carefully. When you work with a team who shares similar goals and passions, everything else will eventually fall into place.

It was a great honor as we had the opportunity to present our video to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam who was enjoyed our energy video. We were quite nervous and it became one of the most unforgettable moments in our careers. We were also flattered by the reactions we received at the prize presentation ceremony making it surreal to us as our intended message was well received.
