The primary function of CAMES is to conduct research in the fields of energy and advanced materials for the purpose of attaining sustainable living. CAMES provides a platform for researchers from various fields to come together to conceptualise ideas, and find solutions to problems pertaining to energy and advanced material. CAMES offers graduate studies programmes in energy sciences and material sciences.
CAMES core research areas are in Nano-photonics, Catalysis, Sensors, Solar Fuels, and Solar Photovoltaic.
CAMES was founded through the initiative of transforming UBD from a teaching university into a research and teaching university. The funding from the Brunei Research Council (BRC) supported the initial projects in CAMES.
