UBD, EdUHK Forge New Academic Partnership in Early Childhood, Inclusive and Special Needs Education

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) formalised their partnership with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed at UBD on 13th May 2024.

The MOU was signed by Dr. Hazri Haji Kifle, Vice Chancellor of UBD, and Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, President of EdUHK, in a ceremony that was also attended by senior management and staff from both institutions.

This collaboration marks a key milestone in UBD’s and EdUHK’s commitment to educational innovation and its role as a beacon of pedagogical leadership. Earlier this March, EdUHK’s Professor Lo Sing Kai Associate Vice President (Internationalisation) and several Professors of Education in EdUHK facilitated a two-day workshop aimed at nurturing early career researchers in UBD and providing professional development for school teachers as well as officers from Ministry of Education, especially in the important area of Inclusive and Special Needs Education.

After the signing of the MOU, the EdUHK delegates were given a campus tour which included UBD’s library. This tour provided an opportunity for the delegates to witness first-hand the vibrant academic environment that UBD offers to its students.

This strategic partnership is set to lay a solid foundation for collaborative endeavours in various academic and research initiatives, with a focus on the field of Early Childhood Education and Inclusive and Special Needs Education. It marks a commitment to sharing knowledge, expertise, and resources, in enhancing the educational landscape in these fields of both countries.

The Education University of Hong Kong brings to this partnership its esteemed position in the global academic community, being ranked within the Top 20 in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject for Education. Moreover, EdUHK’s recognition as one of the Top 4 universities in Asia for Education underscores the potential of this collaboration to make significant contributions to the advancement of educational research and practice in Brunei Darussalam.
