The Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), paid a courtesy visit to the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) at Mercu MQA, Cyberjaya, Malaysia, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen regional engagement in lifelong learning, quality assurance, and flexible learning pathways.
C3L was represented by Dr Anni @ Nik Ani Afiqah Haji Mohamad Tuah, Deputy Director of C3L, together with Dr Atika Qazi and Pengiran Muhammad Wafiq Ghiyathuddin Pengiran Haji Mohd Airudin.
The visit included a productive discussion with Professor Emeritus Dato’ Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang, Chairman of MQA, together with Directors and officers of MQA. The discussion focused on areas of mutual interest, including lifelong learning, quality assurance frameworks for micro-credentials, accreditation and governance, credit transfer, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), flexible learning pathways, and regional interoperability.
The engagement provided an opportunity for C3L and MQA to exchange perspectives on the implementation of lifelong learning and quality assurance practices in Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia. It also opened discussions on potential areas of collaboration, including quality assurance benchmarking, consultation workshops, technical dialogue, Training of Trainers, and future advisory engagement in relation to Assessment and Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (ARPEL) policy and quality assurance readiness.
According to Dr Anni @ Nik Ani Afiqah, “The engagement with MQA provided valuable insights into regional quality assurance practices and lifelong learning frameworks. These discussions are important as C3L continues to strengthen its readiness in supporting flexible learning, micro-credentials, and recognition of prior learning initiatives within UBD.”
The outcomes of the visit are expected to strengthen UBD’s readiness in developing regionally aligned micro-credentials, flexible learning pathways, and quality-assured lifelong learning opportunities. The engagement also supports future benchmarking, policy development, and collaboration efforts that may enhance learner mobility, recognition of prior learning, and accessible upskilling opportunities within the region.
The visit reflects UBD’s continued commitment to advancing lifelong learning and strengthening partnerships with regional quality assurance agencies and higher education stakeholders.
