Dr. Malai Haniti Sheikh Abdul Hamid

Associate Professor

Faculty of Science

About
I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Nottingham and completed an MSc in Advanced Organic Chemistry at the University of East Anglia.  I returned to Brunei in 1999 and joined Universiti Brunei Darussalam as a lecturer in Organic Chemistry.  I continued my postgraduate studies from 2005-2008 at the University of Bath.  I am also an associate member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (AMRSC).

Teaching Area

  • Organic photochemistry
  • Cyclic ring systems
  • Synthesis
  • Chemistry in everyday life
  • Functional groups in organic chemistry.

Current Research

  • Synthesis of novel Schiff bases and synthetic methodology

Research Interests

My research interest lies primarily in the synthesis, characterization and biological studies of sulfur-containing Schiff bases and their metal complexes.  I am also interested in synthetic methodology that involves simple transformations of one functional group to another, particularly via the ‘Borrowing Hydrogen” strategy.
