In a bold initiative to position itself at the forefront of academic innovation and institutional excellence, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) presented ‘Knowledge for Sustainable Excellence’, a transformative public lecture featuring Professor Emeritus Dato’ Seri Ir Dr. Zaini Ujang on 5th February 2026 at the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre, UBD.
As universities worldwide grapple with unprecedented economic volatility, environmental imperatives, and rapidly evolving societal demands, this timely series offered critical insights into how institutions of higher learning can not only survive but thrive in an increasingly complex landscape.
Professor Emeritus Dato’ Seri Ir Dr. Zaini Ujang, Pro-Chancellor of Management and Science University (MSU) and Chairman of Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), brought unparalleled expertise as a distinguished academic, professional engineer, and transformational leader. His extensive track record in institutional reform, sustainable development, and environmental advocacy positions him as one of the region’s most influential voices on the future of higher education. His participation in this series reflects UBD’s commitment to learning from global best practices while addressing local and regional challenges.
The lecture was graced by Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah Haji Mohd Salleh, Minister of Education, whose attendance underscores the national significance of this initiative. Her presence reflects the government’s recognition that sustainable excellence in higher education is fundamental to Brunei Darussalam’s long-term prosperity and competitiveness. Other attendees included members of the UBD community, policymakers, business leaders, educators, and the general public.
