In an effort to cultivate entrepreneurial awareness and practical business competencies among university students, Universiti Brunei Darussalam School of Business and Economics (UBDSBE) is holding Entrepreneurship Week 2026 from 6th to 9th April 2026.
Organised by the UBDSBE Student Council (SBESC), Entrepreneurship Week 2026 is themed ‘Berakar di Kampong, Berkembang Bersama‘ (Rooted in Villages, Developing Together). The theme highlights the importance of staying connected to our roots while growing together. Emphasising collective growth and creativity, the event encourages entrepreneurial spirit while remaining grounded in local culture and support.
Designed as an experiential extension of entrepreneurship education in UBD, the four-day event provides students with hands-on exposure to real-world business practices which include vendor management, stakeholder engagement, sponsorship negotiation, and event operations. It also aims to strengthen collaboration with invited industry partners, namely Makan Ceria, ZUS Coffee, and Hibiscus EP (Brunei) BV.
Entrepreneurship Week 2026 features a diverse range of activities held at UBDSBE and the Central Lecture Theatre, including vendor booths showcasing 18 student and local entrepreneurs, an academic-led workshop on venture development, interactive game booths, an e-sports tournament, and engagement initiatives such as the ‘Clue Chase’ and ‘Kindness Booth’. These activities aim to foster creativity, innovation, and collaboration within the university ecosystem.
Entrepreneurship Week reflects UBD’s mission to “develop innovative and digitally competent leaders fostering positive and sustainable societal impact.” Dean of UBDSBE Dr Wardah Azimah Haji Sumardi said that the event “encourages students to act on their ideas and grow into future entrepreneurs and changemakers.”
She also highlighted the rebranding and reopening of the student-led cube store ‘Padian’ as a strong testament to UBD students’ initiative and resilience in entrepreneurship. “What we are seeing now is a more active and revitalised platform, driven by student commitment and creativity,” she added. “This reflects not only their entrepreneurial capability, but also their resilience, adaptability, and determination—key qualities of a true entrepreneurial spirit.”
The event aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), which reinforces UBDSBE’s commitment to developing future-ready graduates equipped with entrepreneurial mindsets, digital competencies and industry-relevant skills.
