BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 8th September 2026 — Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) officially opened the ‘UBD Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics Laboratory’, powered by Cyber Security Brunei (CSB) and Information Technology Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS), marking an important milestone in strengthening the university’s capacity for cybersecurity education, research and hands-on training.

The opening was officiated by the Guest of Honour, Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Zalani Haji Ismail, Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office. Also present were Dr Hazri Haji Kifle, Vice-Chancellor of UBD; Shamsul Bahri Haji Kamis, Interim Commissioner of CSB; Azman Iskandar Ariffin, Chief Executive Officer of ITPSS Sdn Bhd, alongside representatives of CSB, ITPSS and members of UBD’s senior management, staff and students.

Established through collaboration between UBD, CSB and ITPSS, the laboratory brought together academic strengths and professional expertise to nurture local talent and support a secure and resilient digital future for Brunei Darussalam.

“This is the practical PPP (Private and Public Partnerhip) implementation of Negara Brunei Darussalam’s Cyber Security Act as far as the promotion and development of competencies and professional standards of potential cyber security professionals in the country are concerned. It will also undoubtedly support the advancement of technology and research and development related to cybersecurity,” said the Interim Commissioner on the sidelines of the event.

CSB and ITPSS have supported the laboratory by providing essential hardware and software, as well as sharing practical expertise and professional experience through the workshop given. These contributions will help students and researchers connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications, develop industry-relevant skills and address real-world cybersecurity challenges.

In his welcoming remarks, Professor Dr Liyanage Chandratilak De Silva, Dean of the UBD School of Digital Science, highlighted the importance of the partnership in preparing students for professional practice.

“By combining UBD’s strengths in education and research with the technical resources, practical expertise and industry experience of CSB and ITPSS, this partnership bridges academic learning and professional practice, preparing our students to meet the evolving demands of the cybersecurity sector,” he said.

The establishment of the UBD Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics Laboratory reflects UBD’s commitment to developing future-ready talent and strengthening national capabilities in cybersecurity and digital forensics. The initiative further reinforces UBD’s role in supporting Brunei Darussalam’s efforts towards a secure, resilient and digitally enabled future.
