1.  International Studies 
 
  • Assistant Professor | Lecturer 
  The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam, invites applications for the position of Lecturer in International Studies. We seek a scholar with expertise in Asian Studies, preferably specialising in Southeast Asia (broadly defined). The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, and service in the Programme and the Faculty. Among key responsibilities expected are:   

Teach undergraduate and, where appropriate, postgraduate modules in International Studies, including core/introductory courses and regional or thematic electives related to Asia/Southeast Asia.  

  • Supervise undergraduate research projects, with the possibility of supervising postgraduate work.  
  • Maintain an active research agenda leading to publications in reputable outlets.  
  • Contribute to curriculum development, programme administration, and other forms of academic service.  

Academic qualifications and requirements: 

  • A PhD in Asian Studies, International Studies, History, Political Science or a closely related field, from an internationally recognised university.  
  • A primary or strong secondary specialisation in Southeast Asian studies including regional, transnational, thematic, or comparative work anchored in Southeast Asia.   
  • Evidence of research potential or an emerging record of publications.  
  • Demonstrated ability or clear potential to teach International Studies at undergraduate level.

2.  Tourism Studies 
 
  • Assistant Professor | Lecturer 
  The Geography and Sustainability (GS) programme at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam is seeking a highly qualified and experienced person in the field of Tourism Studies to join our team, who will be able to: 

  • teach courses in the areas of Tourism Studies for the GS programme offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and other related modules offered by other Faculties, Institutes and Centers (FICs) in Universiti Brunei Darussalam.  
  • develop frameworks for learning and the design of instruction and improve assessment methods in related module(s) in various settings. 
  • contribute to the research and publication activities through high impact publications, engagement in the Faculty including research seminars and strengthening the Faculty’s research clusters.   
  • collaborate with academics and professionals within and outside UBD to make a global impact through excellence in research and innovation; and  
  • actively participate in the activities of theFaculty. 

Academic and Professional Qualifications required: 

  • PhD in Tourism Studies or a closely related field (with a specialization in cultural and heritage tourism) from an internationally recognised university. 
  • Demonstrate an outstanding record of research productivity through research grants and publications, and teaching excellence in the above fields. 
  • Applicants’ experience in designing demand-driven programs for the government and/or private sector and conducting lectures for professional/executive development programs in relevant areas of leadership would be an added advantage;   
  • Preference will be given to those who have taught (and supervised research students) at graduate level.
