1.  Pure Mathematics 
 
  • Assistant Professor | Lecturer 
  The Faculty of Science is seeking highly qualified candidates in Pure Mathematics to join our Mathematical Sciences Programme. Candidates should have strong background in one or more of the broadly-defined core areas: Analysis, Algebra, Number Theory and Topology – with no restrictions on the sub-disciplines.  

 

The successful candidate is expected to:  

  • Teach core undergraduate pure mathematics modules and support the development of new GenBESTARI curriculum components.  
  • Supervise undergraduate projects and postgraduate research in Pure Mathematics and related fields.  
  • Develop innovative instructional frameworks and assessment methods.  
  • Contribute actively to research and publication through high-impact outputs, seminar engagement, and participation in Faculty research clusters.  
  • Collaborate with academics and industry partners to advance UBD’s research excellence globally.  
  • Participate actively in the activities of the Faculty.  

 

Academic and Professional Requirements:  

  • A PhD in Mathematics or closely related field from a reputable university.  
  • Strong research achievements through reputatble journal publications and/or competitive grants.  
  • University teaching experience in pure mathematics; postgraduate teaching supervision is an advantage.  
  • Experience in designing academically rigorous or demand-driven quantative programmes for industry or government sectors would be an added advantage.

2.  Sedimentology 
 
  • Assistant Professor | Lecturer 
  The Faculty of Science, Geosciences Programme is seeking a highly qualified candidate in Sedimentology to join our team, who will be able to: 

  • teach courses in the areas of Sedimentology and Field Geology for the Faculty of Science offered by the Geosciences Programme and other related modules offered by other Faculties, Institutes, and Centres (FICs) in Universiti Brunei Darussalam.   
  • develop frameworks for learning and instruction design and improve assessment methods in related module(s) in various settings. 
  • contribute to research and publication activities through high-impact publications, faculty engagement, research seminars, and strengthening the faculty’s research clusters.   
  • collaborate with academics and professionals within and outside UBD to make a global impact through excellence in research and innovation and 
  • active participation in the activities of thefaculty. 

Academic and Professional Qualifications required: 

  • PhD in Sedimentology, Petroleum Geology, or a closely related field (with a specialization in Sedimentology) from an internationally recognized university. 
  • Demonstrate an outstanding record of research productivity through research grants and publications and teaching excellence in the above fields. 
  • Applicants’ experience in designing demand-driven programs for the government and/or private sector and conducting lectures for professional/executive development programs in relevant areas of leadership would be an added advantage.   
  • Preference will be given to those who have taught (and supervised research students) at the graduate level. 
  • Citizen of Negara Brunei Darussalam  
  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level  
  • Experienced in delivering sedimentology-related practicals and fieldworks.

3.  Computational Physics and Data-Driven Modelling 
 
  • Assistant Professor | Lecturer 
  The Faculty of Science, Applied Physics Programme is seeking a highly qualified candidate in Computational Physics and Data-Driven Modelling to join our academic staff. The successful candidate will be expected to:  

  • teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in computational physics, numerical methods, theoretical physics, scientific programming, and related modules offered by the Applied Physics Programme and other Faculties, Institutes, and Centres (FICs) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam;  
  • contribute to curriculum development by designing innovative computational and data-driven learning activities, assessments, and laboratory or project-based modules;  
  • develop and sustain an active research programme with outputs in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, secure competitive research funding, and contribute to the strengthening of computational and theoretical physics research clusters within the Faculty;  
  • conduct research in one or more of the following areas:  
  • computational physics and numerical modelling of physical systems  
  • density functional theory (DFT) and electronic structure calculations  
  • machine learning / artificial intelligence applied to physical sciences  
  • scientific data analysis, simulation, and high-performance computing;  
  • supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research students;  
  • collaborate with experimental physicists and interdisciplinary researchers within and outside UBD to deliver nationally relevant and internationally visible research outcomes; and  
  • actively participate in teaching, research, outreach, and administrative activities of the Faculty.  

 

Academic and Professional Qualifications Required: 

  • PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Computational Physics, Theoretical Physics, or a closely related discipline from an internationally recognised university;  
  • demonstrated research productivity through peer-reviewed publications and evidence of potential to attract competitive research funding;  
  • evidence of teaching capability at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in computational and/or theoretical physics–related subjects;  
  • experience in supervising student research projects or theses will be an advantage;  
  • familiarity with modern computational tools, programming languages (e.g. Python, MATLAB, C/C++), and data-driven research methods is expected.

  The Faculty of Science invites applications from outstanding candidates specialising specifically in Statistics, Probability or Operations Research, and related quantitative disciplines. Candidates with strong mathematical foundations in mathematical data science or statistical computing are encouraged to apply.  

The successful candidate is expected to:  

  • Teach core and advanced modules in Statistics, Operations Research, Probability, Optimization and Quantitative Methods.  
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research involving statistical modelling, simulation, optimization, applied probability or quantitative analysis.  
  • Contribute to curriculum development in line with GenBESTARI’s emphasis on analytics and computational literacy.  
  • Produce high-impact research publications and contribute to UBD’s research clusters through collaboration, seminars, and grant activity.

5.  Climate Hazards & Disaster Risk Science

  The Faculty of Science, Geosciences Programme is seeking a highly qualified candidate in Climate Hazards & Disaster Risk Science to join our team, who will be able to: 

  • teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Climate Hazards, Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Impacts, Environmental Hazards, and related Earth System Science modules offered by the Geosciences Programme and other Faculties, Institutes and Centres (FICs) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.  
  • develop innovative frameworks for learning, instruction design, and assessment methods in hazard science, climate risk, and resilience-related modules across diverse learning settings.  
  • contribute to research and publication activities through high-impact, peer-reviewed publications, competitive research grants, faculty engagement, research seminars, and by strengthening interdisciplinary research clusters related to climate resilience and sustainability.  
  • collaborate with academics, policymakers, and professionals within and outside UBD to deliver locally relevant and globally impactful research outcomes in climate risk assessment, disaster preparedness, and adaptation strategies.  
  • actively participate in academic, research, outreach, and administrative activities of the Faculty.

  The Faculty of Science, Geosciences Programme is seeking a highly qualified candidate in Computational Earth Systems and Artificial Intelligence in Geosciences to join our team, who will be able to: 

  • teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Computational Geoscience, Earth System Modelling, Geospatial Analytics, Machine Learning/AI applications in Earth Sciences, and related modules offered by the Geosciences Programme and other Faculties, Institutes and Centres (FICs) at Universiti Brunei Darussalam.  
  • develop and enhance data-driven learning frameworks, computational curricula, and advanced assessment strategies integrating AI, big data, and Earth system science.  
  • contribute to cutting-edge research and high-impact publications, secure external research funding, and strengthen computational and digital Earth research clusters within the Faculty.  
  • collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, industry partners, and international researchers to advance innovative, scalable, and societally relevant computational solutions in geoscience and environmental sustainability.  
  • actively participate in teaching innovation, research leadership, and service activities of the Faculty.  

Academic and Professional Qualifications Required: 

  • PhD in Computational Earth Science, Geosciences with strong computational/AI focus, Data Science applied to Earth Systems, or a closely related discipline from an internationally recognized university.  
  • Evidence of excellent research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications, competitive grants, and teaching excellence in computational or AI-driven geoscience domains.  
  • Experience in developing industry- or government-facing computational solutions, professional training programmes, or executive education will be an added advantage.

7.  Financial Mathematics 
 
  • Assistant Professor | Lecturer 
  The Faculty of Science invites applications from outstanding candidates specialising in Financial Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, or Mathematical Finance, with strong foundations in stochastic processes, probability theory, and quantitative modelling  

The successful candidate is expected to:  

  • Teach courses and modules in the areas of Financial Mathematics offered by the Mathematical Sciences programme in the Faculty of Science, and other related modules offered by other Faculties, Institutes and Centres (FICs) in Universiti Brunei Darussalam.   
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research in areas such as financial modelling, stochastic calculus, risk analysis, and quantitative finance applications.  
  • Contribute to curriculum development, particularly in strengthening mathematically rigorous finance and quantitative risk components.  
  • Produce high-quality research outputs through publications, collaborative projects, and grant activities.  
  • Engage with interdisciplinary partners and industry stakeholders to enhance the real-world relevance of financial mathematics education and research.  

Academic and Professional Requirements:  

  • PhD in Financial Mathematics or a closely related field (with a specialization in financial modeling, stochastic processes, or quantitative finance) from an internationally recognized university. 
  • Strong research achievements through reputatble journal publications and/or competitive grants.  
  • Evidence of teaching excellence at undergraduate or postgraduate level.  
  • Experience in stochastic modelling, financial derivatives, risk analytics, or quantitative programming is an advantage.  
  • Industry or professional engagement in finance-related quantitative work is desirable.
