Successful candidates will be expected to:  

Teaching & Supervision  

• Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the clinical and health sciences for BHSc Medicine and Master of Medicine (MMed), and related programmes such as Dentistry, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences and Nursing/Midwifery, and other related modules offered by other Faculties, Institutes and Centres (FICs) in UBD.   

• Supervise and mentor students in clinical placements, research projects and professional development.  

• Preference will be given to those who have taught (and supervised research students) at graduate level.   

• Contribute to curriculum development, assessment and innovative teaching methods.  

Clinical and Health Service  

• Engage in clinical and health practices provided by UBD.  

• Contribute and participate in the community and health initiatives in alignment with UBD’s Healthy University Roadmap.  

• Serve as a role model for professionalism, patient-centred care and evidence-based practice.  

Research  

• Develop and lead research projects in areas relevant to clinical and health sciences.  

• Demonstrate an outstanding record of research productivity through research grants and publications and teaching excellence in the above fields.  

• Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.  

• Contribute to securing external research funding.  

Leadership & Administration  

• Manage and coordinate the academic programmes and oversee programme requirements such as timetabling, scheduling of clinical placements, assessment planning and student progression tracking.  

• Support quality assurance processes, including curriculum review, accreditation requirements and compliance with university and professional standards.  

• Serve as a liaison between IHS, partner healthcare institutions and external collaborators to ensure smooth programme delivery.  

• Participate in departmental committees, programme coordination and faculty initiatives.  

• Build collaborations with national and international partners to enhance education and research.  

Qualifications and Requirements:  

Recognised medical qualification (e.g., MBBS/MD, MBChB, MBBCH) from an internationally recognized university.  

• Relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g. Master’s, PhD, Membership or Fellowship specialist training).  

• Registration and eligibility to practice in Brunei Darussalam (or internationally recognised license).  

• Demonstrated experience in teaching, clinical supervision and/or research.

 Teaching and Academic Expertise:  

The candidate must demonstrate expertise in:  

• Teaching Artificial Intelligence–related modules for the Master of Digital Public Health.  

• Applying AI, machine learning and data analytics to disease surveillance, risk prediction and decision support.  

• Integrating digital health tools and health information systems into public health practice.  

• Supervising digital public health research and innovation projects.  

• Collaborating across disciplines on AI-enabled public health initiatives.  

Educational Qualification:  

PhD in Digital Public Health, Health Informatics, Data Science, Epidemiology (with AI focus), Computer Science (health applications), or a related discipline.  

• Senior Professor | Professor  

The appointee will be expected to:   

• Develop and teach courses in the areas of Human Genetics and Genomics for both under- and postgraduates programmes offered by IHS.  

• Contribute to other related modules, e.g. Statistical Genetics and Big Data Analytics, offered by other Faculties, Institutes and Centres (FICs) at UBD.  

• Develop frameworks for learning and to design instruction and improve assessment methods in related module(s) in various settings.  

• Develop, complement and enhance IHS’s research clusters in personalised Genomic Medicine, especially those related to cancer genomics.  

• Apply for research grants, initiate new research directions and lead an active research team.  

• Contribute to the growth of the genomic research infrastructure at IHS.  

• Contribute to the research and publication activities through high impact publications.  

• Provide strategic leadership in genomic medicine research aligned with national and international priorities.  

• Demonstrated leadership in large-scale medical genomics studies, population genomics, or precision medicine initiatives.  

• Experience in the development or application of AI-assisted genomic analytics, bioinformatics, or computational genomics.  

• Initiate collaboration with academics and professionals within and outside UBD to make a global impact through excellence in research and innovation.  

• Actively participate in the activities of the Faculty, including but not limited to conducting research seminars.   

Qualifications and Requirements:  

PhD in Genetics, Genomics, or a closely related discipline from an internationally recognised university. Preference will be given to candidates with a specialisation in cancer genetics and genomics.  

• A minimum of 10 years’ postdoctoral (or equivalent) research experience, with clear evidence of progression to senior academic leadership.  

• An internationally recognised track record of research excellence, demonstrated by:  

• Sustained success in securing competitive research funding as Principal Investigator;  

• High-quality, peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals;  

• Evidence of research impact, translation, or influence on policy and clinical practice.  

• Proven teaching excellence in genetics, genomics, or related biomedical disciplines at undergraduate and postgraduate levels 

• Assistant Professor | Lecturer 

Key Responsibilities:  

• Deliver high-quality teaching in high dependency and critical care nursing across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  

• Design, review and lead curriculum development for High Dependency Unit (HDU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Cardiac Critical Care nursing modules.  

• Supervise, mentor and assess nursing students during clinical placements in high dependency, intensive care and acute care settings.  

• Conduct and publish research in high dependency, intensive care, or critical care nursing, contributing to the Institute’s research profile.  

• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects (Masters and PhD levels).  

• Participate in academic leadership, quality assurance and programme development activities within the Nursing Programme.  

• Engage in professional, community and clinical partnerships to strengthen academic–practice integration.  

Qualifications and Requirements:  

• PhD in Nursing or a closely related field (specialisation in Critical Care / Intensive Care / Acute Care preferred).   

• Registered Nurse with a recognised nursing regulatory body.   

• Minimum 10 years of clinical experience in high dependency, intensive care, cardiac critical care, or equivalent acute care settings.    

• Evidence of research and publications in critical care or high dependency nursing.   

Demonstrate experiences in:  

• Teaching and curriculum development related to HDU, ICU, or critical care nursing.  

• Clinical teaching, supervision and mentoring of nursing students in acute care, HDU, ICU, or critical care nursing.  

• Simulation-based learning and interprofessional education is an advantage.  

Desirable Attributes:  

• Postgraduate clinical certification in Critical Care or Intensive Care Nursing.   

• Track record of securing research grants or involvement in funded research projects.   

• Experience contributing to curriculum review aligned with outcome-based education frameworks.   

• Strong commitment to student-centred learning, clinical excellence and academic leadership.  

• Assistant Professor 

Registered midwife with a strong commitment to student-centred learning and the ability to facilitate student engagement while integrating key midwifery concepts across the curriculum. The appointee will be expected to teach across a broad range of midwifery subjects and contribute to curriculum development, assessment design and educational content development.  

Key Responsibilities:  

Successful candidates will be expected to:  

• Contribute effectively as part of the teaching team (teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students) and support the strategic development of the Midwifery programme;  

• Collaborate in faculty development activities and supervise and evaluate staff, where appropriate;  

• Maintain currency in learning, teaching and clinical practice through continuing professional development, including conferences, professional activities and scholarly publications;  

• Build strong student relationships through participation in orientations and by providing counselling, mentoring, coaching and academic advising;  

• Monitor and evaluate student performance, attendance and academic progress;  

• Engage with key stakeholders and participate in academic and professional events to strengthen local and regional engagement;  

• Review, update and enhance teaching and learning resources to ensure alignment with best educational practices;  

• Actively engage in high-quality research, producing publications in high-impact journals, and develop collaborative research partnerships within the University and with highly ranked international institutions.  

 Qualifications and Requirements:  

• PhD in Midwifery or a closely related midwifery specialisation from a recognised university;  

• Registration as a midwife with relevant professional regulatory bodies;  

• Strong academic background with demonstrated ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, both within the university and in clinical practice setting;  

• Ability to contribute to teaching within Health Sciences and Allied Health programmes.  

Clinical expertise or professional experience in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage:  

• Operating theatre midwifery  

• High dependency and critical midwifery care  

• Midwifery care of women with complex conditions throughout childbirth  

• Emergency midwifery care  

• Associate Professor | Assistant Professor  

Roles and Responsibilities:  

• Teaching and supervising undergraduate dental students in Paediatric Dentistry.  

• Providing clinical training and mentorship in paediatric dental care.  

• Contributing to curriculum development, assessment and quality assurance activities.  

• Participating in academic leadership, programme development and strategic initiatives within the Dentistry Programme.  

• Engaging in clinical service, research and academic administration as required.  

Qualifications and Requirements:  

• Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a recognised university.   

• Clinical Master’s degree in Paediatric Dentistry from a recognised institution.  

• Clinical Fellowship from the Royal College (UK) will be an advantage.  

• Minimum of 15 years of clinical experience in Paediatric Dentistry.  

• Familiarity with, or experience working within, the Brunei Dental Healthcare System is highly desirable.  

• Demonstrate capability and willingness to participate in academic leadership roles, such as programme coordination, curriculum development, or committee responsibilities.  

• Associate Professor | Assistant Professor  

Roles and Responsibilities:  

• Teaching and supervising undergraduate dental students in Periodontology.  

• Providing clinical training and mentorship in periodontal diagnosis and therapy.  

• Contributing to curriculum development and continuous programme improvement.  

• Conducting research, publishing scholarly work and applying for research funding.  

• Participating in academic administration, leadership activities and professional service.  

Qualifications and Requirements  

• Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a recognised and reputable institution.  

• Clinical Master’s degree in Periodontology from a recognised institution.  

• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Periodontology or a closely related field.  

• Clinical Fellowship from the Royal College (UK) is an advantage.  

• Demonstrated clinical and academic experience, preferably within a university setting.  

• Strong research background, with evidence of scholarly publications and research activities.
