Full-time Research Assistant

Project: Building Climate Champions: Culturally Responsive Education in Rural Brunei

The Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE) of Universiti Brunei Darussalam is conducting a research project on Climate Change Education and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy in Rural Brunei. We seek to hire one (1) full-time Research Assistant for 2 months, with expected commencement on 1 Feb 2026 – 31^st March 2026.

The Role

We are looking for a motivated candidate with strong interest in climate change education, qualitative and quantitative research, and working with primary schools in Brunei. The project involves mixed-methods data collection with upper primary students, including pre–post tests, perceptions surveys, module implementation, and focus group discussions (FGDs).

Minimum Requirements

• Brunei Citizens or Permanent Residents.
• Master’s degree in Education, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, Psychology, or a related field.

• Demonstrated research skills (quantitative and qualitative).
• Ability to assist with:
  • Data collection (tests, surveys, FGDs)
  • Transcription and thematic coding
  • Administrative and logistical arrangements
  • Classroom assistance during module implementation
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Have own transport and ability to travel to field sites (e.g., Temburong) when required.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred/Advantageous Skills

• Experience with primary school research or community-based research.
• Knowledge of Braun & Clarke (2016) thematic analysis.
• Competency in SPSS or basic statistical analysis.
• Ability to design learning materials or assist with module printing tasks

Planned Contract Duration

2 months full-time, beginning 1st Feb 2026 to 31^st March 2026.
