The Applied Physics Program, Faculty of Science, invites applications for a part-time Research Assistant (RA) position under the research project “Fabrication and Optimization of Air-Processed Optoelectronic Devices.” The appointment is for a period of two years, commencing 1 October 2026.
The Role
The successful candidate will contribute to the computational component of the project, which focuses on the first-principles study of the electron transport layer in sensitized solar cells (SSCs). The role involves carrying out density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations to investigate the structural, electronic, and optical properties of TiO₂-based electron transport materials. The Research Assistant will also assist in data analysis, preparation of technical reports, and publication of research findings.
Essential Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- A BSc in Applied Physics.
- A sound understanding of the operating principles of sensitized solar cells (SSCs).
- Experience in performing DFT calculations, including the DFT + U approach, to investigate the structural and electronic properties of TiO₂.
- Experience with Quantum ESPRESSO and Gaussian software in a Linux environment.
- Demonstrated research and scientific communication skills, evidenced by technical reports or research outputs at least at the level of a final-year undergraduate research project.
Preference will be given to candidates with:
- Experience in TDDFT calculations and optical property analysis.
- Familiarity with Linux shell scripting and high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
- Demonstrated research and scientific communication skills in a related area, evidenced by written technical reports at least at the level of a final-year undergraduate research project.
