The editors of the prestigious journal Ecology Letters recently sent congratulations to a team of biologists, including UBD’s Associate Professor Dr David John Marshall, for achieving among the most-downloaded (top 20) papers from the journal’s website in the past two years. This journal is ranked 4/158 in the category of Ecology, and carries an impact factor of 9.137 (ISI Journal Citation Reports 2017).
Dr. Marshall was invited by an international team to assist in preparing and coauthoring the paper which aimed to build a framework for predicting how well animals will perform under the higher temperatures they are likely to experience during future climate warming. The paper titled, ‘Can we predict ectotherm responses to climate change using thermal performance curves and body temperatures?’ by Sinclair et al., was published in Ecology Letters in October 2016. Dr Marshall lectures in the Environmental and Life Sciences programme of the Faculty of Science. His research has involved studies in ecology and biogeography for all global regions, including the Antarctic, though his current focus is on the responses of tropical marine organisms and communities to environmental change. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 research papers, and is Associate Editor of the journal Regional Studies in Marine Science (Elsevier).
