‘Sustaining Marine Biodiversity Through Blue Economy Symposium 2023’ was officially launched this morning at the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Hj Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metusin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism. The welcoming remarks was delivered by Dr. Hazri bin Haji Kifle, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, followed by the opening speech by Puan Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abd Wahab, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The symposium which takes place from 6th to 8th June 2023 is co-organised by Universiti Brunei Darussalam and the Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, with support from the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC). The three-day event includes talks delivered by local and international experts in marine biodiversity and conservation, and marine resources management, where participants will learn best practices and gather information on these goals. The symposium also offers unique experiences in Brunei’s coral reefs and mangroves, showcasing Brunei’s commitment to their sustainable use, conservation and management. This symposium is one of the concurrent events under the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition (MYCE) 2023.
