UBD Presents University Medals, Book Prizes and Excellence Awards

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) honoured the achievements of its excellent students at the University Medal and Book Prize Awards Ceremony on 23rd August 2023, held in conjunction with the recent 35th UBD Convocation Ceremony.

Presenting the awards was the Guest of Honour Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah Haji Mohd Salleh, Minister of Education and Chairperson of the UBD Council. Also attending the event were Vice Chancellor of UBD Dr Hazri Haji Kifle, principal officers and staff, sponsors as well as award recipients’ family members.

A total of 90 University Medals, Book Prizes, and Excellence Awards were presented to students during the ceremony where Nur A’ishah Haji Khairul Amir Shahrin received the Vice Chancellor’s Medal. She recently graduated with a Bachelor in Engineering (Energy Systems). The Vice Chancellor’s Medal is awarded based on the recipient’s academic merits, significant contributions and achievements in extracurricular activities as well as for demonstrating exemplary leadership skills.

The University Silver Medals are presented to the best final year student from each Bachelor Degree. Aside from Nur A’ishah, this year’s five Silver Medalists also included Sarah Mohamed Mohieldin Ahmed Abouelmaati, Koo Pey Ting, Areezna Arza Haji Abdullah and Ayuni Syahindah Haji Mohd Taufik.

Amongst the recipients of the University Book Prizes, 13 students and 67 students from Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree programmes respectively received the prestigious award for their outstanding performance.

A student received the Book Prize for his outstanding performance in Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB). The recipient, Nurafifah Aqilah Hussin is from the Bachelor of Business (Business Administration) programme. In addition, Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd presented Excellence Awards to three recipients. Major Jonathan Edward D’Cruz and Nur Amni Haji Sawal were also recognised for their excellent performance in the Graduate Diploma and Diploma categories respectively.

This year, five students received the Chinese Ambassador Award. Siti Nursarah Julhijjal, Su Jih Yang, Nur Adlin Hanisah Haji Mohd Noorasri and Melanie Choo Hui San received the award for Chemical and Process Engineering. Meanwhile Abdul Wafi Haji Ismail and Hani Nadirah Muhammad Daud received the award for Mandarin Language.
