UBD, Tsinghua University Affirm Academic Collaboration via Student Exchange Agreement Signing

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Tsinghua University, China inked a Student Exchange Agreement to affirm their academic collaboration in a Student Exchange Agreement signing ceremony held at UBD on 20 September 2023.

Signing on behalf of UBD was Vice Chancellor Dr Hazri Haji Kifle and on behalf of Tsinghua University was its President, Professor Wang Xiqin. Also in attendance were UBD and Tsinghua University senior management and staff.

 In his welcoming remarks, UBD Vice Chancellor Dr Hazri shared that the foundation of the collaboration between UBD and Tsinghua University was laid during Tsinghua’s visit to UBD in 2015, that was followed with signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the same year. This visit from Tsinghua University will strengthen the academic and research collaborations between the two institutions, including fields such as engineering, entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as, communication studies.

 For student mobility, UBD plans to send its Discovery Year students for their Study Abroad and Internship programmes at Tsinghua University. UBD’s Discovery Year is the credit-bearing year out of the university where UBD undergraduates spend their third year engaged in experiential learning activities, and then return to UBD to complete their final year of their Bachelor’s degree. Reciprocally UBD also prepares to receive Tsinghua University students to Semester Exchange Programme and Global Discovery short-term programme (GDP) including the Global Entrepreneurship Summer School and GDP Discover Brunei Course.

 Tsinghua University is ranked within the Top 25 universities in the world in both the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings and the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings. Tsinghua University ranked first in the THE Asia Rankings 2023.
