UBD Establishes Academic-industry Link with ITPSS

Local I.T. security company I.T. Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) today at the UBD campus in Jalan Tungku Link.

The MOU serves as a general framework for the establishment of an academic-industry link, initiating a working relationship between UBD and ITPSS for cooperation and collaboration in the field of I.T. security and cybersecurity. The scope of cooperation includes collaborative research, and the possible establishment of a cutting-edge laboratory at UBD for purposes such as joint research and development, and joint training of staff and students.

Further, ITPSS will provide industrial engagement for UBD students and faculty members, in addition to accommodating several UBD students for industrial internship placement at the company or its affiliates. In a collaboration with UBD’s School of Digital Science, ITPSS will be hosting a visiting academic early next year as part of the Executive Visiting Professorship and Visiting Academic Program (EVPVA), where the focus will be on emerging technologies in cybersecurity and cyber criminology.

The MOU was signed by Azman Iskandar Ariffin, Chief Information Officer at ITPSS, and Professor Dr Mohammad Ayub Sadiq, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Innovation & Enterprise) of UBD. Present to witness the signing ceremony were Mohammad Azad Zaki bin Haji Mohd Tahir, Deputy Chief Information Security Officer at ITPSS, and Senior Professor Dr Chandratilak De Silva Liyanage, Dean of the School of Digital Science, UBD.

In his speech, Yang Mulia Azman Iskandar Ariffin said, “the ever-evolving threats and challenges in cyberspace necessitate continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration.” He added that the MOU signifies ITPSS’ dedication to collaboration and cooperation in the field of cybersecurity.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Senior Professor Dr Chandratilak De Silva Liyanage expressed his delight in witnessing “the infusion of industry-relevant knowledge through student industrial attachments at ITPSS and also setting up of a joint research lab at UBD”. He further highlighted the unwavering support of the Government of his Majesty and the Ministry of Education on UBD educational initiatives and vision in fostering a symbiotic relationship between academia and industry.
