The Institute for Biodiversity and Environmental Research (IBER), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) launched a digital audio tour guide that was created for the UBD Botanical Research Centre (UBD BRC).
The collaboration with Ebode of Dynamik Technologies is supported by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism. The digital audio tour guide using the IZI.travel application offers visitors to the UBD BRC Garden an immersive and informative experience. Users can explore the diverse plant species and learn about the rich biodiversity of Brunei Darussalam.
The partnership between UBD and Dynamik Technologies underscores a shared commitment to achieving the united Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With over 500 plant species, the UBD BRC Garden serves not only as a sanctuary for botanical specimens but also as a centre for conservation, research, education and outreach. As the sole botanical garden in Brunei Darussalam, it continues to attract visitors and researchers alike, offering a glimpse into the nation’s natural splendor.
In a statement by Haslina Taib, Dynamik Technologies’ Chief Executive Officer and UBD Council member, she emphasised the collaborative effort in curating verified content for the digital audio guided tours to ensure reliability and consistency of information, enhancing the visitor experience.
Recognising the importance of catering to the digital generation and embracing Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) principles, Dynamik Technologies highlighted the significance of data-driven information in elevating tourist experiences. Digitalising Brunei’s tourism industry promises to create dynamic and comprehensive tours, address the need for multilingual guides, introduce interactive elements, and provide structured yet captivating experiences for visitors.
The digital audio tour guide can be accessed anytime, anywhere and can complement or supplement a solo traveler or those traveling in groups. Visitors who are visually or audio impaired can listen or read the information readily available through the digital audio tour guide.
The UBD BRC digital audio tour guide will promote Brunei’s natural beauty, empower visitors to become responsible stewards of the environment, and propel the nation’s tourism industry into a digital future.
Since the introduction of the digital audio tour guides in 2022 starting with the Royal Regalia Museum, the expanding collection of digital tours offers a variety of indoor and outdoor tours for the benefit of domestic and international tourists. Digital travelers from over 45 countries visiting Brunei Darussalam include the United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia and Malaysia.
