Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) concluded the Discover UBD Challenge 2024 held on 27th October 2024, in conjunction with National Family Day 2024.
A total of 304 participants made up the 76 teams who took on the exciting challenge of solving clues and navigating tasks across the UBD campus. They completed all the challenges entirely on foot, which align with UBD’s commitment to sustainable practices as part of its Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiatives. By not using cars, the event promoted eco-friendly habits and encouraged participants to engage with the campus environment responsibly.
Discover UBD Challenge 2024 aimed to foster teamwork, promote the history and values of UBD, while supporting charitable causes. From the event’s proceeds, 10 percent were donated to the UBD Endowment Fund.
Guest of Honour Hajah Nor Ashikin Haji Johari, Permanent Secretary (Community) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports presented prizes to the winners of the challenge. Health Hunters secured first place and won four tickets to Melbourne Australia. Houdini’s Friends, in second place, won four tickets to Seoul, South Korea. Lucky Beanie, in third place, won four tickets to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In addition to the top three winning teams, those in fourth to 10th place received massage chairs, electrical appliances and UBD merchandise as tokens of appreciation for their outstanding efforts and participation. The prizes were awarded by Dr Joyce Teo Siew Yean, Acting Vice-Chancellor.
Apex Warriors impressed the judges with their creativity and enthusiasm, winning the Best Dressed Category. They received the prize from Hajah Maudena Haji Abdul Hamid, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (University Life and Governance).
Discover UBD Challenge 2024 was a celebration of community spirit, providing an opportunity for students, alumni, and the public to reconnect, explore, and celebrate the latest developments at UBD. The university looks forward to hosting more engaging events in the future in order to continue building strong bonds within the community and provide enriching experiences for all.
