Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) will host a series of talks on 5th December 2024, titled “Journey Beyond Borders: Unveiling ERASMUS+ Experiences.”
Organised by the Office of Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Sustainability), members of the public are welcome to attend the event, which will run from 2pm to 4pm at Smart Classroom 4, Chancellor Hall, UBD. This event will celebrate the transformative power of international mobility through the ERASMUS+ programme, which has provided countless opportunities for students, staff, and researchers across Europe and beyond.
This event offers a unique platform for ERASMUS+ participants to share their journeys and experiences, providing the audience with firsthand insight into the cultural immersion, academic development, and personal growth of studying or working abroad. These stories will highlight how ERASMUS+ has opened doors to new perspectives, academic collaborations, and intercultural exchanges, shaping participants into global citizens and professionals.
Among the distinguished speakers will be Dr Eleni Zagana, an Associate Professor at the University of Patras in Greece. She will deliver an in-depth presentation on the benefits and impact of international mobility, particularly in fostering cross-border research collaborations. She will also highlight the groundbreaking research on seawater intrusion on Zakynthos Island, a prime example of how ERASMUS+ fosters collaborative academic inquiry across borders.
In addition to Dr Zagana, several ERASMUS+ participants, including UBD students, will share their personal stories of cultural immersion and academic achievement, shedding light on the diverse opportunities that ERASMUS+ offers for growth and exploration. Current geology students from the Faculty of Science (FOS), Pg Khairunnisa Nazirah Pg Dr Karim, Siti Nuradlina Misli, and Nurul Azrina Boey, will each present their experiences, showcasing how ERASMUS+ can enrich one’s academic and personal life. Alkmini Tzoumaka, the first ERASMUS+ exchange student to Brunei Darussalam, will also share her perspective from Greece, offering further insight into how ERASMUS+ facilitates academic exchanges between Brunei and Europe.
Another speaker, Dr Shi Siong Tang, Senior Education Officer at the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam, will speak on Brunei’s commitment to global education and the role of ERASMUS+ in supporting educational mobility for Bruneian students and staff.

As ERASMUS+ continues to expand, its influence on academic and personal development will grow. This event aims to inspire more Brunei students, staff, and researchers to participate in future exchanges. By showcasing the success stories of ERASMUS+ and promoting collaboration, UBD hopes to ignite interest and cultivate a culture of international cooperation that benefits the broader academic community in Brunei.
