The Brunei Borneo Sustainability Summit, hosted by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), brought together sustainability experts from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam from 21st to 22nd April 2025.
The summit, held at the Pro-Chancellor Arts Centre in UBD, provided a vital platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strategic planning to address key environmental and socio-economic issues facing the Borneo region, with the aim of drafting the Borneo Assessment Report.
The summit’s two days were filled with productive workshops, discussions, and presentations across various clusters, including topics such as geography, flora, fauna, sustainable agriculture, and economic development. These sessions aimed to identify regional sustainability challenges and develop actionable strategies for addressing them, while fostering stronger networks and partnerships across the region.
In addition to the summit’s core activities, an Earth Day Panel on 22nd April 2025 furthered the discussions under the theme ‘Our Power, Our Planet.’ Welcoming remarks were delivered by Dr Hazri Kifle, Vice-Chancellor of UBD, followed by an engaging panel featuring distinguished speakers including Professor Dr Woo Wing Thye, Professor Dr Mazlin Mokhtar, Professor Dr Jatna Supriatna, and Professor Dr Basilios Tsikouras. The panel provided valuable insights on sustainability and the power of collective action for the planet’s future.
The summit successfully produced a first draft outline of the Borneo Assessment Report, identifying key priorities for each cluster and reinforcing collaborative efforts to ensure sustainable development across Borneo.
UBD extends its gratitude to all the participants, speakers, and partners for their contributions to the summit’s success and looks forward to continued collaboration in advancing sustainability initiatives in the region.
