Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) proudly celebrates four decades of academic excellence, innovation, and community impact with its 2025 Hari Raya celebration themed ‘Gemilang 40: Gemerlapan Aidilfitri.’ This milestone event, held at the Bridex Banquet Hall in Jerudong, marks an important chapter in UBD’s journey since its founding in 1985.
The day-long celebration is divided into two sessions. In the morning, UBD welcomed over 300 distinguished guests, including industry partners, alumni, government officials, and strategic stakeholders who have been instrumental in UBD’s growth and success. The gathering served as a platform to express gratitude, foster deeper partnerships, and share the university’s future direction as it strengthens its role as Brunei Darussalam’s national university and a regional leader in higher education.
The afternoon session was dedicated to UBD’s vibrant internal community—its staff and students—to honour their dedication and contributions in shaping the university’s achievements. With festive cheer, cultural performances, and shared reflections, the session celebrates UBD’s collective spirit of excellence.
In his address, UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri Haji Kifle said that “Today’s event is also a celebration of our close partnership with our stakeholders, especially from the industry”. “UBD’s success has been shaped by your contributions from internship placements and research collaborations to innovation projects and knowledge exchange,” he added. “These efforts embody our commitment to the Triple Helix model of academia-industry-government collaboration, and continue to serve as the foundation of our initiatives for future-ready graduates and impactful research”.
This year’s event also embraced a green sustainability theme, with showcases echoing UBD’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and innovation. Guests were encouraged to engage in low-waste practices and eco-conscious festivities as a symbolic gesture toward a sustainable future. were encouraged to bring their own reusable plates, tiffin containers, tumblers, and cutlery, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by significantly reducing the reliance on single-use plastics. To further support this green initiative, biodegradable plates and utensils were also provided.
Furthermore, the celebration featured the Healthy University booth – ‘Syaringan Raya’, which showcased engaging activities and resources focused on promoting health and well-being within the UBD community.
As UBD enters its fifth decade, Gemilang 40: Gemerlapan Aidilfitri stands as a heartfelt expression of gratitude, unity, and a renewed commitment to building knowledge, driving innovation, and empowering the next generation.
