UBD and TAP Sign MoU to Advance Student Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Tabung Amanah Pekerja (TAP) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that marks the beginning of a strategic collaboration focused on nurturing entrepreneurship, enhancing financial literacy, and supporting national workforce readiness among students and graduates.

The signing ceremony was held at the UBD Administration Conference Room and officiated by UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri Haji Kifle and TAP Managing Director Awang Haji Mohammad Adfarul Haji Maz Adnan. The event was witnessed by UBD Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Industry Engagement and Enterprise Development) Dr Haji Masairol Haji Masri and TAP Chief Business Development Officer Dayang Sarirani Abdul Ghani.

This partnership represents a shared commitment to empower students and graduates with the knowledge, tools, and opportunities to thrive in a changing economic landscape. Among the key areas of collaboration is the promotion of TAP’s Skim Persaraan Kebangsaan for Self-Employed (SPK SE), which will be introduced to students and aspiring entrepreneurs through targeted awareness and outreach activities. The initiative aims to cultivate a culture of financial responsibility and long-term planning among youth exploring self-employment or freelance careers.

In addition, UBD and TAP will co-develop programmes and workshops designed to build financial resilience and entrepreneurial capability. The collaboration will also open pathways for student internships and career development, and explore the possibility of establishing a joint research and training laboratory to support innovation and capacity-building efforts. These initiatives are closely aligned with UBD’s Discovery Year framework and Brunei Darussalam’s national human capital development agenda.

The MoU outlines a five-year framework for cooperation, including provisions for renewal and adaptation in accordance with future priorities. This collaboration is a timely response to the evolving dynamics of employment and entrepreneurship, ensuring a future-ready workforce equipped with the tools for financial independence and self-driven innovation. This collaboration supports Brunei Darussalam’s vision under Wawasan 2035 and the Digital Economy Masterplan, reinforcing efforts to cultivate a resilient, innovative, and future-ready generation.
