Universiti Brunei Darussalam Successfully Concluded the Second ASEAN University Network (AUN) Summer Camp 2025

The Second ASEAN University Network (AUN) Summer Camp 2025 officially concluded with a closing ceremony officiated by Yang Mulia Puan Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, celebrating two weeks of immersive learning, cross-cultural exchange, and youth-driven dialogue on sustainability and regional development.

Hosted by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle, in collaboration with the ASEAN University Network (AUN) and supporting partners, the programme brought together aspiring student leaders from across ASEAN under the theme “Green Stewardship: Preserving Biodiversity and Advancing Sustainable Development”.

In her closing remarks, Yang Mulia Puan Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab commended the organisers for curating a programme that reflects a shared commitment to education, sustainability, and youth development.

Over the course of two weeks, 163 university representatives and students from 38 universities of ASEAN University Network (AUN) and ASEAN+3 University Network member universities participated in a diverse range of experiential learning activities, including thematic workshops, interactive lectures, field visits, and collaborative design projects. These sessions were designed to bridge theory and practice whilst fostering leadership, problem-solving, and intercultural competencies.

Among the programme’s highlights were the World Bank Talent Outreach Programme, which featured insights from Dr Wempi Saputra, Executive Director for Southeast Asia at the World Bank, and other experts who shared their personal journeys in international development. The AIPA Dialogue, led by Her Excellency Ar. Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman, Secretary General of AIPA, offered students a rare opportunity to engage directly with a regional leader and reflect on their roles as informed and active citizens within the ASEAN community. The Future Ocean Changemakers Youth Forum 2025 offered a platform for discussions on ocean conservation and the blue economy, highlighting emerging career opportunities and global priorities in marine sustainability.

“These sessions were more than just programme highlights, they were formative experiences that challenged students to think critically, engage meaningfully, and envision their futures as contributors to a more resilient and sustainable ASEAN”, Yang Mulia Puan Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab added.

The summer camp underscored the importance of platforms such as the UBD-AUN Summer Camp in nurturing future leaders who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and regional awareness needed to address global challenges. The programme also supported the advancement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goals 13, 14, and 15.

Students were congratulated for completing the programme and encouraged to carry forward the inspiration, knowledge, and friendships gained.

The successful conclusion of the Second UBD-AUN Summer Camp 2025 marks another milestone in ASEAN’s collective efforts to empower youth as changemakers and advocates for sustainable development, reaffirming the region’s commitment to education, collaboration and sustainable development.
