UBD Hosts 20th AUNILO Meeting, Focus on Digital Innovation and Sustainability

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Library is hosting the 20th Libraries of ASEAN University Network (AUNILO) Meeting from 22nd to 24th July 2025, in collaboration with the ASEAN University Network (AUN) and AUNILO. 

With the theme “Futureproofing Libraries Through Digital Innovation and Sustainability,” this year’s meeting brings together university librarians and knowledge leaders from across Southeast Asia to explore how libraries can embrace digital transformation and environmentally responsible practices in an era of rapid change. 

Universiti Brunei Darussalam is honoured to host this milestone meeting,” said Hajah Maudena Abdul Hamid, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (University Life and Governance) of UBD. “As we welcome our AUN partners to our shores, we also celebrate a renewed commitment to advancing higher education in ASEAN, grounded in mutual respect, innovation, and a common regional identity.” 

This year’s meeting is being attended by over 40 delegates, representing 24 institutions from eight ASEAN member countries, including the host, UBD. 

The three-day event features country report presentations, a business meeting, an interactive workshop, and networking and cultural activities celebrating Brunei’s rich heritage. Discussions will revolve around: 

  • Integrating sustainable technologies in library operations
  • Leveraging AI and automation to enhance library services
  • Ensuring long-term digital preservation and accessibility
  • Fostering collaboration and sharing best practices across ASEAN institutions  

A keynote address was delivered by Special Duties Officer Grade I, Siti Multazimah Haji Ibrahim, Head of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Unit at Pejabat Wawasan Brunei, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), highlighting Brunei Darussalam’s commitment to aligning digital innovation with the Sustainable Development Goals. 

Associate Professor Dr Thanapan Laiprakobsub, Executive Director of AUN, shared his message with attendees, emphasising the significance of regional collaboration: 

This meeting reaffirms our shared belief that education must be the foundation of regional unity. Together, AUN members are not just fostering excellence — we are shaping a resilient, knowledge-driven ASEAN future.” 

Now in its 20th edition, the AUNILO Meeting continues to serve as a strategic platform for knowledge exchange, professional development, and innovation in academic libraries across ASEAN.
