Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with OSCO Sdn Bhd, on 16th October 2025 at the UBD Campus.
The collaboration reflects UBD’s ongoing commitment to strengthen academia-industry partnerships in advancing education, research, and innovation.
The MoU was signed by UBD Vice-Chancellor, Dr Hazri Haji Kifle, and Jimmy Chan, Project Manager of OSCO Sdn Bhd. The ceremony was witnessed by Associate Professor Dr Jose Hernandez Santos, Director of the Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L), UBD, and Siti Nurhakimah Haji Abdul Hamid, Legal Officer of OSCO Sdn Bhd.
Under the MoU, UBD and OSCO will explore collaboration in several key areas, including:
- Collaborative Research: Joint projects, seminars, fieldwork, and publications in solar power technology, renewable energy systems, sustainable construction, and energy-efficient building design, combining UBD’s research expertise with OSCO’s engineering and infrastructure experience.
- Industrial Engagement: Opportunities for UBD students and faculty to engage with OSCO Sdn Bhd through site visits, applied research, training, and joint supervision of projects, gaining exposure to real-world practices in engineering, construction, and renewable energy applications.
- Industrial Internship and Apprenticeship: Placement of UBD students for industrial attachments and Discovery Year internships at OSCO project sites, offering hands-on learning in civil, electrical, and solar system installation while enhancing their technical and professional skills.
- Cooperation in Other Areas: Expansion of collaboration into other mutually beneficial areas such as capacity building for Bruneians in solar and renewable energy technologies, development of micro-credential and professional certification programmes through UBD’s Centre for Lifelong Learning (C3L), and joint initiatives on green infrastructure, smart technology integration, and environmental sustainability. The partnership may also extend to community outreach and lifelong learning projects, promoting broader awareness of sustainable development practices in Brunei Darussalam.
This strategic partnership provides a platform for knowledge sharing, skills development, and impactful collaborations that benefit both academia and industry. It also aligns with Brunei Darussalam’s efforts to strengthen human capital development and foster innovation-driven growth in the renewable energy and sustainable construction sectors.
