UBD Marks World Mental Health Day 2025 with a Focus on Resilience and Healing

22nd October 2025 – In observance of World Mental Health Day, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) held an event themed “Speak Yourself – A Journey of Resilience & Healing” at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS).

The event was organised by the Centre for University Life and Wellness (UniHealth), in collaboration with the Student Affairs Section. It aimed to create space for reflection, dialogue, and awareness around mental health and emotional well-being. The opening ceremony took place at the Concourse Area of the IHS Extension Building and was attended by members of the university community, including students, academic staff, and healthcare professionals.

Hajah Maudena Haji Abd Hamid, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (University Life and Governance), officiated the event as the guest of honour. It opened with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, led by Ustaz Haji Muhammad Dzulhilmi Haji Moharefandi, Religious Officer from the Student Affairs Section.

Awg Dr Deeni Rudita Idris, Deputy Director of UniHEALTH and Co-chair of the event, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the significance of nurturing resilience, supporting mental health, and encouraging students and staff to speak openly about their struggles and healing journeys.

The keynote talk, titled “Beyond the Surface: Self-care Discovery in a Noisy World” was delivered by Dr Khadizah binti Haji Abdul Mumin, Senior Assistant Professor in Nursing and Midwifery. She shared professional insights and practical perspectives on navigating mental health challenges, particularly within academic and healthcare settings. A Q&A session followed, giving attendees the opportunity to engage in open discussion and reflection.

The event was part of a broader effort to promote mental health awareness and foster a healthy and supportive environment on campus — an initiative in line with UBD’s commitment to holistic development and staff-student well-being. It also reflects UBD’s dedication to building a Healthy University — one that prioritises the mental, physical, and social well-being of its students, staff, and wider community. A university that champions holistic health will naturally enhance creativity, productivity, and a culture of care across all levels of teaching, learning, and service.
