Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), through its flagship Global Discovery Programme (GDP) under the Office of Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement), proudly launched a 4-week short-term programme with The University of Western Australia (UWA), welcoming 11 undergraduate students for a meaningful academic and cultural exchange in Brunei Darussalam.
Commencing on 16 November 2025, the programme offers UWA students an immersive experience that blends experiential learning, cross-cultural understanding, and exposure to Brunei Darussalam’s rich heritage, culture, and biodiversity.
This programme marks the inaugural collaboration between UBD and UWA. The participation of UWA students underscores the shared commitment of both institutions to promoting student mobility, strengthening academic ties, and nurturing global citizenship.
Throughout the 4-week programme, the students engaged in interactive academic sessions delivered by UBD faculties, namely the Academy of Brunei Studies, Faculty of Science, and Language Centre. These sessions were complemented by curated cultural activities and field trips, including a Pencak Silat workshop facilitated by the Student Affairs Section.
Through these academic and cultural components, GDP continues to highlight the unique offerings of UBD, providing international students with an enriching and transformative experience.
During the opening ceremony, Dr Rosnah Abdullah, Deputy Director at the Office of Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement), UBD, highlighted: “Through the Global Discovery Programme, we aim to provide international students with the opportunity to learn about Brunei, including the culture, traditions, environment, and languages, through an immersive approach.”
Associate Professor Dr Yu Tao from the School of Social Sciences of UWA expressed appreciation for UBD’s warm hospitality and emphasised that the programme provides invaluable opportunities for UWA students to deepen their understanding of Brunei’s cultural heritage.
The Global Discovery Programme (GDP) is UBD’s flagship inbound mobility initiative, designed to provide international students with experiential academic learning and cultural immersion in Brunei Darussalam.
