UBD Marks Brunei’s 42nd National Day with Flag-Raising Ceremony

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) marked the start of Brunei Darussalam’s 42nd National Day celebrations with a flag-raising ceremony held in front of Chancellor Hall, UBD on 16th February 2026.

Organised by the Student Affairs Section, the event brought together university staff, students, and invited guests in a spirit of unity to commemorate the nation’s Independence Day.

The guest of honour for the ceremony was Dr Hazri Haji Kifle, UBD Vice-Chancellor, whose presence added significance to the occasion. Also in attendance were Assistant Vice-Chancellors, principal officers, staff and students.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by the entry of the UBD Military Cadets for the flag-raising ceremony. The National Anthem of Brunei Darussalam, Allah Peliharakan Sultan, was performed by the UBD Choir Club, after which the oath-taking was led by final year undergraduates: Muhammad Ambree Nazri Ahmad from the Bachelor of Digital Sciences programme at the School of Digital Sciences (SDS), Dayangku Yura Nadya Sharina Pengiran Haji Yura Halim from the Bachelor of Arts (History and International Studies) programme at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), and Rina Noraini Kula from the Bachelor of Arts (Geography, Environment and Development) programme at FASS.

Members of UBD clubs and bodies under the Universiti Brunei Darussalam Students’ Association (PMUBD) then paraded past, accompanied by a patriotic song, Berkibarlah Bendera, performed by the UBD Choir Club, which added to the celebratory atmosphere. The ceremony concluded with a prayer for safety and well-being, followed by a group photo session, capturing the spirit of unity and national pride in celebrating Brunei Darussalam’s 42nd year of independence.
